In the early 1990's, a core group of Durham and Middlefield citizens, who were concerned about the young people of the two communities, recognized the need for the youth of the two towns to have somewhere they could call "a place of their own."
After three (3) long years of planning, Durham/Middlefield Youth & Family Services opened in June, 1996 at its current site, Middlefield Community Center, 405 Main Street, Middlefield Connecticut.
Durham/Middlefield Youth & Family Services, Inc., (D/MYFS) is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the youth and families of Durham and Middlefield.
A volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of concerned citizens, Professionals, Town Officials, Law Enforcement, and High School Students, governs D/MYFS.
The Board has grown and continues to grow with caring, smart, involved individuals who want to see the center grow to meet the community's needs.
Most recently the opening of an after-school program geared towards Memorial and Strong age students. The after-school program will also be open most holidays, school recesses and during the summer.
